The unused rail line between Needham and Medfield offers a wonderful opportunity for a rail trail conversion. This rail corridor has few road intersections and runs along the Needham Town Forest, then through miles of woods in Dover away from residences and along ponds and conservation land.

The line is owned by the MBTA and is no longer used by its current operator, the Bay Colony Railroad. Representatives of both companies have indicated that they are open to a rail to trail conversion.

A small group comprised of people from each of the three towns has come together to advocate for a multi-use trail along the 7-mile corridor, and the project has quickly gathered momentum. Help us maintain this momentum and join our effort!

This map shows the location of all three sections of the trail. The longest section (in blue) will run from Chestnut Street in Needham to Harding Street in Medfield. The red markers are mile markers - the trail will be approximately 7 miles long. The blue markers indicate road crossings and link to aerial images on Bing. The green section is a possible extension on the North side of Needham across Rt. 128. The red section is a proposed Green Line spur from Curtis Street in Newton to Wexford Street.
